Who is Robert Tripolino?
Last time I checked, Robert Tripolino is an actor, a musician, a composer and someone who spends entirely too much time trying to figure out how to write the perfect melody. Underneath all the character work, I am just someone who loves to laugh, take his work seriously, and tries really hard not to take himself too seriously!
What would you do differently from what you do now?
If you mean a completely different career path? I think maybe an architect? Any kind of path that involves building something that lasts longer than a 2.5 hour long evening performance. Either that or a professional food taster… is that a real job? If not, I am happy to pioneer the field.
Who inspires you and why?
My family because they ground me. Swings and understudies because they work so hard and are always best on ground in keeping shows running. And anyone who can tell a completely original story without worrying about whether it fits into a neat little commercial box.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’d make arts education mandatory and fully funded in every single school, no exceptions. The arts teach empathy, problem solving, and most importantly how to connect with other human beings – things that I think are in desperate need of in the world right now.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
A no brainer… ITALY! It’s in my blood. The culture, history and unapologetic passion… oh and the FOOD!!! The fact you can sit in a piazza drinking espresso and eating carbohydrates that is considered a culturally enriching experience? My paradise.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to and why?
Depends on which “town” I’m calling home at the moment! If my old stomping ground in Victoria, I am taking them to the Great Ocean Road for the air and sites, followed by a pub meal and local band viewing. If I’m in London… a Sunday roast is a no brainer! But I think the best attraction in any city is the local food and getting the chance to people watch.

What are you currently listening to?
I am currently listening to the Sinner’s motion picture soundtrack. I also listen to a lot of Joe Hisaishi, the Studio Ghibli composer!

Waking up and having a morning coffee with my loved ones.
What does the future hold for you?
Writing more of my own music, getting my hands on roles that terrify me just a little bit, and hopefully convincing people to keep buying tickets to see me perform. As long as I get to keep telling stories, making music and, if I must, occasionally hitting those high notes, I will be a happy person!
