Who is Rob Mills?
I am an actor, singer, entertainer, mentor, author, fiancé, friend and bringer of joy, fairness and kindness.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I would read more books and practice guitar and piano more. I would spend more time with friends and family.
Who inspires you and why?
My friends, peers and family inspire me, they all create in different ways… some create art, some create magic, some create memories, some create record breaking achievements, some create families. I’m really lucky to also have a partner who inspires me.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I have been thinking about this a lot lately, and like Michael Franti says, “Everyone, deserves music” – I whole heartedly agree. So I have been thinking about ways I can help the Australian Children’s Music Foundation help implement music programs into more schools. Speak to Governments about ways to subsidise theatre tickets for students, encourage more people to play an instrument, learn more about the ARTs and why they’re important for our well being and social upbringing.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I really love Bologna. Georgie and I went a few months ago. The food was incredible, the vibe was fun and it really felt like a cool city that’s being lived in by everyone.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I always take friends to the Botanical Gardens. I love it. It’s where Georgie and I did most of our dating. It’s beautiful and there’s so many spots to just chill and relax.
What are you currently reading?
I started off the year so well, but I haven’t been reading much lately, but I can’t wait to get my hands on Revenge of the Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. Huge fan. Read Great Expectations at the start of the year and loved it.
What are you currently listening to?
A lot of Christmas songs (mainly for gigs) but I have been listening to this new Country Mix on Spotify and I gotta say, I love it! Maybe it’s middle age, but I have found my new favourite genre.
Happiness is?
Contentment. But it’s also doing the thing that you love. And then it’s also a Westie that you get to pat on the footpath. It’s your partner picking you up from the airport. It’s witnessing your friends in a show absolutely nail that performance. It’s laughing till you cry whilst eating a delicious meal with friends. It’s kicking the footy with a mate and thinking you’re still a chance of getting drafted at 42. It’s screaming on a roller coaster. It’s holding your friends baby and them tell you, “You’d be a really good dad.”
What does the future hold for you?
More shows of Rob Mills sings the hits of Bon Jovi. Hopefully more acting and singing in shows/tv/film. Maybe a house renovation. More creating ART in whatever form that takes. More mentoring. More championing good things and good people in the world.
Rob joins a stellar list of artists who will grace the Sidney Myer Music Bowl stage for Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight on Tuesday 24 December 2024. For more information, visit: www.carols.visionaustralia.org for details.
