On the Couch with Rebecca Clay

Rebecca Clay Arts Review On the CouchWho is Rebecca Clay?
An actor… and a wife and mum of 2 beautiful, crazy, fun, funny, full of life children. I really have no idea, so I make it up as I go along. I work in my parents family business (allows me time off when I need to audition or work, which I’m so grateful for… I’m a terrible waitress), I exercise most days (it’s my “me” time), I run around after my kids with their soccer, swimming, dancing, running and the list goes on. I sometimes get to work on some great theatre, TV or film that lights my creative fire and I never want it to end. I love the process and research of working on a role and working with creatively passionate people.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
When I get to work on great roles in theatre or TV I don’t want to do anything else, I love it. If that wasn’t an option, I’d love to work with athletes in some capacity.

Who inspires you and why?
Anyone who is passionate about their world. People who work hard and those with some kind of grit inspire me. It reminds me to get out there and have fun and really go for it and that life is for living and it’s what we make of it.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I feel so small in the world, but I know it starts with one person. By being generous and kind and never judging a book by its cover, would be a start.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Morocco – pre kids with hubby, was a fabulous trip with great food and company. The colours, textures, smells, markets and bazaars are amazing. Hawaii with my 2 best girlfriends from kindy to celebrate our 40ths – a dream come true, just girls and relaxing and shopping and laughing and shopping. I came home with sore cheeks from laughing so much.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Scarborough Hotel down the South Coast. It has a fantastic view to relax and eat some great food while catching up.

What are you currently reading?
Flame Trees script (of course) and probably 1 of 30 Grug books.

What are you currently listening to?
On rotation… Pink, Keith Urban or Matilda the Musical.

Happiness is?
Any wonderful moment with my hubby and kids… watching my kids score a goal at soccer and seeing their little faces beam with pride; sitting around a campfire with hubby and friends or after performing in a great show, heading home at night and sneaking in the house knowing hubby and kids are warm and in bed asleep. Laying on the lounge in my ugg boots, with Peanut Butter miche bread (toasted), a hot cup of English breakfast tea, and watching episodes of a great show like Nurse Jackie.

What does the future hold for you?
I’d love to be in a musical, I’m not a great singer, but we need to reach for our dreams, right? To work on a great Aussie, gritty TV show with someone like Tony Ayres at the helm. The work he is bringing to our screens is fantastic. Lots of holidays and hugs and giggles from my hubby and kids. Oh, and of course, more Peanut Butter toast.
