On the Couch with Raf Epstein

ABC-Raf-EpsteinWho is Raf Epstein?
I’ve been going to press conferences since Paul Keating was Prime Minister and I’ve spent most of the last 12 years as a host on ABC Radio Melbourne.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
If I wasn’t in the media I dream about running a cafe somewhere on a quiet roadside in regional Victoria. It would be called Raf’s Caff. Serving fantastic coffee and sensational toasted sandwiches.

Who inspires you and why?
My dad Joe Epstein because he was inexhaustible and endlessly optimistic.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’m doing what I can on the radio, but we need more fact based media.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Central Victoria. Because it’s beautiful and it’s where I feel most at home.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
My favourite restaurant in Daylesford, my favourite winery on the Mornington Peninsula, my favourite bookshop in Carlton and my favourite coffee roaster in Brunswick (they used to be in Balaclava).

What are you currently reading?
American Prometheus – which is the biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer that inspired the film.

What are you currently listening to?
The Chemical Brothers new release, For that Beautiful Feeling.

Happiness is?
A perfect day has to have a great coffee, a great talk back call, a great walk with the dog and a meal with my family.

What does the future hold for you?
Early mornings.
