On the Couch with Peter Coleman

AAR Peter Coleman photo by Nicole ClearyWho is Peter Coleman?
My name is Peter Coleman. I’m the author of several books, including Sins of the Filthy Rich and Australia’s Most Bizarre Crimes. I have a Ph.D. in cultural studies from Monash University. My primary reason for getting a Ph.D. was to call myself ‘Dr’ on flights and get upgraded to Business class. To date, no upgrade has been forthcoming.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’d like to be a world-renowned detective who solves murders at luxury travel destinations.

Who inspires you and why?
My cat – Sir Bubble Chonkington. He unashamedly indulges in the pleasures of life.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would ban billionaires, misogyny, racism, religious extremism, misinformation and ugly clothes.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Kyoto, Japan – because of the temples, gardens, people, food, museums, shopping and general ‘vibe’.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I usually take visitors to a hidden bar in Melbourne’s CBD, tucked away in a secret laneway or up a secluded staircase. It’s like visiting Narnia, but with overpriced cocktails instead of talking animals.

What are you currently reading?
Monsieur Proust by Céleste Albaret.

What are you currently listening to?
The Broadway cast recording of Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Happiness is?
A freshly purchased book.

What does the future hold for you?
Continuing to buy more books than I can ever hope to read.

Peter is the Author of Sins of the Filthy Rich – published by Affirm Press and available from all good book sellers.
