On the Couch with Paulini

Paulini-photo-by-Rosanna-FaraciWho is Paulini?
I am a Fijian-Australian singer, songwriter and actress who rose to fame in the inaugural season of Australian Idol in 2003… if you’re old enough you may remember a gold dress incident. LOL

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Believe it or not that really is a tough question, music has always been part of my life. My belated father taught me to sing in church from a very young age. I’m very fortunate to still be working in the industry, alternatively I think I would likely have pursued a sporting career as a netballer or possibly a nurse.

Who inspires you and why?
Gee… I’m inspired but not only people but circumstances and places. In this moment I am in right now I am inspired by the determination of my Mum, the zest my puppy Ringo has for living and whenever I hear an Aretha Franklin or Whitney Houston track played. ICONS!

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
The world we live in today is so different, there are so many answers, but I think the most prevalent for me and those around me would be to invent glasses that make everyone equal no matter their race, sexuality, or religion. At the end of the day ‘We Are One’ and that is why my latest song release is titled with the same name.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I have been fortunate enough to travel the world writing music. Honestly every destination holds a special place in my heart or memory. I love heading back to Fiji as this always feels like home to me. New York is where I penned my 2012 single Fireman… I have memories of a group of women screaming with excitement as a truck full of firemen drove past them.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
You know I live in Sydney, right? Everyone always wants to physically see or even touch the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, so they are the obvious choices. I’m a huge lover of the outdoors so showing them some of nature’s gifts is a must. Ie. Bondi Beach or the Figure 8 pools.

What are you currently reading?
Ha Ha most of the time I am reading or writing lyrics to songs or scripts however I recently received a copy of Jess Eva’s book Why Wouldn’t Ya – so that is keeping me entertained.

What are you currently listening to?
I’m always listening to and admiring Faith Evans…

Happiness is?
I think happiness is often a misconception by many. Happiness to me is just being, being present in the moment while being thankful for what you have.

What does the future hold for you?
This could be the easiest of all the questions… The future holds a lot of music and a lot of singing! I believe that I am meant to share my gift so if you’ve got it flaunt it. lol
