On the Couch with Oliver Twist

Sydney-Festival-JALI-Oliver-TwistWho is Oliver Twist?
Oliver Twist is a parish boy in a 1835 Charles Dickens Novel. But if you are asking, who am I, I am an African diaspora artist creating shows that I love for the stage.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I would do something in architecture or design, I don’t know if I have an aptitude for it though.

Who inspires you and why?
My friend Rowan Thambar always endlessly inspires me. He is a fellow creative. His perspective is refreshing and so different to how I see anything.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Stop eating meat (I don’t eat it), so I guess I am doing it. So can you by the way, just let animals chill (They won’t bother you I promise).

Favorite holiday destination and why?
I enjoy serenity and quite sometimes, somewhere with water and trees would be nice. Rio in Brazil!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
There is a place called Vandal Taqueria that I like, great food and then take them to Brett Whiteley Studio, they always put on great exhibits there.

What are you currently reading?
Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami – a great novel. Truly great!

What are you currently listening to?
Listening to an album called Athena by Sudan Archives, sublime record.

Happiness is?
I feel like happiness is the two great pleasures of life, Love and Work. Everything else is frivolous, I think. And I am lucky to design a life with and around those, I will be very happy!

What does the future hold for you?
Good health, I hope. For you as well.
