Who is Morag Myerscough?
Morag Myerscough is an artist who is renowned for her vibrant installations that transform public spaces and foster belonging.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Nothing!
Who inspires you and why?
The everyday. I lived in London up until a few years ago when I moved to the edge of London. Just walking in the streets of London with my dog Elvis everyday inspired me, there was always something new and people to chat with and now I have a large garden and love growing flowers and experiencing the seasons.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
That is a huge expectation to think you can make a difference. But I hope that the work I make brightens people’s lives and stays in people’s memories.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I travel the world with my projects and don’t really go on holiday. Everywhere I travel I learn so much as I often work closely with communities. This is my second time in Ballarat and I have enjoyed listening, chatting and getting to know the strong vibrant community.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
A gallery, the Tate Modern. Currently the exciting place to go to in London is the New V&A East Storehouse.
What are you currently reading?
A Mind of My Own by Kathy Burke.
What are you currently listening to?
Messy by Lola Young.
Happiness is?
Happiness for me, a sunny warm day in the garden with my partner Luke and my dog Elvis and a cup tea. Very Rock n roll.
What does the future hold for you?
One thing I am looking forward to is the completion of my new studio. Getting a kiln and making tiles to cover the outside of my house.
Known for her bold use of colour and pattern, Morag’s installation, Chasing Sunbeams, is being presented as part of Sunnyside at Ballarat’s historic Mining Exchange until 23 November 2025. For more information, visit: www.sunnysideart.com.au for details.
