On the Couch with Mitchell Woodcock

Mitchell Woodcock AAR On the CouchWho is Mitchell Woodcock?
I like to think of myself as someone who is very driven and focused but also doesn’t take things too seriously. I love to have a laugh and always make sure I have fun, so it never feels like I am working.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I can’t see myself doing anything else. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a performer and choreographer but in another life I would probably look at being an architect or sports specialist.

Who inspires you and why?
I am constantly inspired by my parents and how hard they have worked and what they have been able to achieve.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I always strive to create opportunities for the next generation of performers to work and create. Our industry is so small in Australia and it really needs ongoing support to ensure it keeps growing.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
There are so many amazing places but one of my best experiences was a weekend tip to Capri in Italy whilst on the International tour of West Side Story.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
A coastal walk is one of my most favourite things to do in Sydney and I always make sure my friends get to experience it while they’re in town.

What are you currently reading?
My Chicago script!

What are you currently listening to?
Emeli Sande’s new album Real Life.

Happiness is?
When you stop thinking and just enjoy the moment.

What does the future hold for you?
I am constantly challenging myself and wearing different hats. I’m currently in pre-production as Creative Director/choreographer for Guy Sebastian’s upcoming tour and the Opening Ceremony of the T20 Cricket World Cup.

Mitchell is currently appearing in Chicago the Musical – which is playing at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre until 20 October, before seasons in Brisbane from 2 November and Melbourne from 14 December 2019. For more information, visit: www.chicagothemusical.com.au for details.
