On the Couch with Mirusia

Mirusia Arts Review On the Couch photo Karl NeilsonWho is Mirusia?
I am anAustralian opera singer who sings around the world on my solo tours and with Andre Rieu. Many people will have seen me perform with Andre, but I am currently on an International Tour which is also taking me all around Australia – the tour is called This Time Tomorrow.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
If I wasn’t a singer I would love to be a personal assistant or someone who organises things a lot. I am quite the control freak! I like to have everything 100% under control.

Who inspires you and why?
Positive people inspire me – people who always have a sunny view on life, no matter what the circumstances.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Sometimes I feel by singing around the world I am making a small difference. When people come to my concerts they can forget about their problems or sorrows for a little while and just enjoy some of the world’s most beautiful melodies. If I could make an even bigger difference I would love for people to be more friendly to each other, even just a simple smile or greeting on the street can make a difference. We are all so busy and focused on ourselves we forget sometimes that a smile on the street can really brighten someone’s day.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
My husband and I recently visited Lisbon in Portugal and we absolutely fell in love with that city. The ambience, the vibe, the people and the food. Everything about it was right down our alley. We also love coming home to Brisbane as we are always travelling – home can sometimes feel like the best holiday!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take then to, and why?
We have a lot of visitors from overseas and I love to take them sailing on Moreton Bay or over to Stradbroke Island. It’s just something a little different rather than going to the zoo to see koalas! (But that is fun too!) I am a big nature fan – I love to see the beautiful untouched beaches and the feeling of freedom that sailing can give.

What are you currently reading?
I used to be a huge book worm but in recent times my books have been replaced with emails – I am always busy organising things and staying in touch with friends and this now takes up a lot of my time. When I do have  a little bit of down time I like to watch a good series and I am currently in the middle of House of Cards.

What are you currently listening to?
I am on the road a lot so I love to tune in to the local radio stations and hear what they are playing. Being in The Netherlands at the moment we have a lot more Electronic Dance Music coming by – there is a huge scene for that here.

Happiness is?
Dawn on the patio with a sauvignon blanc, my husband and our cat Aydin.

What does the future hold for you?
My new CD and DVD This Time Tomorrow will be released soon and I am on tour with that concert series until August, I am then joining Andre Rieu for 6 months on tour (we are also touring in Australia in October) and next year sees me embarking on a new tour and hopefully another new album. I love creating music and being on the road and I hope I will be doing that for a long time to come.

Mirusia will be presenting This Time Tomorrow at The Concourse, Chatswood on Saturday 30 April as part of her 2016 national tour of Australia. For more information, and additional performance dates, visit: www.mirusia.net for details.
