Who is Mietta White?
A 20-year-old who grew up in a very theatrical family, now pursuing a fantastical job, just trying to stay grounded.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’d either like to study interior design or psychology, specifically in the performance realm.
Who inspires you and why?
On a day-to-day basis in the show I’m working on, the audience, specifically in the bows. This reminds me of how wonderful people can be, that characters from every walk of life can be brought together by theatre and share a few moments of simultaneous joy.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Listen more.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Possibly somewhere I have yet to travel, this excites me more than the wonderful memories I already carry with me from holidays past.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
A good cafe followed by browsing at secondhand shops… and because why not?
What are you currently reading?
Lost Connections by Johann Hari. Every time I pick this book up is constantly life altering.
What are you currently listening to?
Currently, at this exact moment. Braille Face, my eldest brother’s music. It’s awfully special hearing your shared emotions and experiences be put into the most eloquent melodies and messages.
Happiness is?
Forever fleeting. It’s the small moments where you know you’re in the right place, at the right time, with the right people.
What does the future hold for you?
Constant doubt, inevitable sunburn (sorry dad, I’m trying my best) and continual striving to make sure 86-year-old Mietta would be proud and fulfilled.
Mietta stars as Meg Giry in the new production of The Phantom of the Opera – which is currently playing in the Joan Sutherland Theatre – Sydney Opera House until 16 October, before playing the State Theatre – Arts Centre Melbourne from 2 November 2022.
