On the Couch with Mia Dabkowski-Chandler

Mia Dabkowski-Chandler AAR On the CouchWho is Mia Dabkowski-Chandler?
My name is Mia Dabkowski-Chandler and I have something to confess – I’ve been lying to my dog about where I go at night, the truth is, I’m working in a junkyard under the Jellicle moon. This Polish-Australian actress is powered by a deep love for coffee, music, dance floors and smiles. Empathetic, down to earth and fiercely loyal, she yearns to sing pop and jazz music for the rest of her life.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Not much. My personal triumphs and struggles have all played a part in shaping who I am today. I deeply appreciate the people I’m fortunate to have in my life and the opportunities that have come my way. If I could have done anything differently, it would be to have more faith in myself and place less importance on others’ recognition. My inner conscience is my greatest leader.

Who inspires you and why?
My family and my husband. I have been supported for years by the most incredible people who encourage me to pursue my dreams even through hardship. They guided me to persevere through to the sweet landings and without their support, I would not be where I am. In addition, I am unconditionally obsessed and inspired by Marina Prior. A true leading lady in every sense.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
This feels like a Miss Congeniality question, in which I would reply – World Peace. Duh. And tampons should be free! But seriously, spread kindness.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Within Australia, without a doubt, Hamilton Island. Driving around in a buggy and soaking in island rays and sea breeze is my happy place. A bucket list future holiday spot is Portugal! Food and culture is my DNA.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The sweatiest wine bar hidden in Melbourne’s CBD, followed by a blurry late night graffiti photo-shoot at Drewery Lane and ending with a sloppy souvlaki in Richmond.

What are you currently reading?
Two Brothers – Ben Elton. I’m a little bit of a history nerd and specifically drawn to WWII novels.

What are you currently listening to?
Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll say Dua Lipa, on repeat. Radical Optimism!

Happiness is?
Sunk deep into my green leather couch with my hubby, puppy and some pierogi.

What does the future hold for you?
I wish I had a crystal ball! I dream of doing what I am doing now – working in roles that I adore, being challenged and pushed everyday to not only be a better performer, but also a great leader and friend. Simply being able to call this performance life a ‘career’ is such a privilege. And perhaps winning a free upgrade to business class! I’m working on it.
