On the Couch with Megan Wonfor

Megan Wonfor AAR On the CouchWho is Megan Wonfor?
My name is Megan Wonfor. I am 25 years old and a professional dancer based in Sydney.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’ve always aspired to be part of The Rockettes in New York City. I grew up watching their performances and have always admired the beautiful lines and extensions they showcase on stage. It truly feels like a dream contract.

Who inspires you and why?
One of my biggest inspirations is my boss, Rachel James. She has been one of my coaches and mentors since I was 16 years old. She has always been my biggest supporter and constantly encourages me to step outside of my comfort zone.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I love sharing my passion for dance through teaching. Creating a space where my students feel loved, supported, and encouraged is incredibly important to me. Helping them chase their goals and dreams is a small way I can make a positive impact on their lives.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I’ve never been there before, but one of my bucket-list holiday destinations is New Zealand. Its beautiful culture, nature, and wildlife have always made it feel like such an incredible place to explore and experience.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Being from Sydney, my friends and family who visit always want to see the beautiful architecture the city has to offer, including the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. There are also so many amazing restaurants and experiences along the harbour. Another favourite attraction is the Sydney Botanical Gardens, which are full of stunning plants. During the sunset you get a beautiful view of the city.

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently re-reading Atomic Habits by James Clear.

What are you currently listening to?
At the moment, I’m loving music from Tate McRae, Olivia Dean and Justin Bieber.

Happiness is?
Being at home surrounded by family and friends makes me the happiest. I always feel most like myself when I’m laughing and able to be completely authentic.

What does the future hold for you?
Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue exploring new opportunities through Marvellous the Show. It’s such a fun contract, and performing alongside a cast that truly feels like my second family makes it even more special. I’m also looking forward to continuing to grow and experiencing new and exciting opportunities as a professional dancer in the future. Anyone who knows me personally also knows that I dream of getting married and having kids one day. I’ve always wanted to create a beautiful family of my own.
