What would you do differently from what you do now?
Write more! Full time would be the dream! I’d make it more of a priority if I had the capacity but a gal’s gotta hustle and work to pay the bills.
Who inspires you and why?
Female playwrights who balance their practise with having a family. Eg: Susie Miller, Patricia Cornelius as a single mum back in the day… Female artists/directors/designers/actors etc… who can work full time in the arts and mother at the same time. I see you!
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’d like to use my artistic skills to continue driving social change and start conversations.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I love hiking; the Grampians are good for this and only one or two hours down the road. Walking really helps me think and feeds my creative practice. I also went to London recently, to the National Theatre, epic!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I live in Koroit, a small town of 4,000 people just out of Warrnambool in south west Victoria. If they come here, I would take them to Tower Hill, Koroitj. A dormant volcano turned nature reserve, it’s full of natural wildlife and the dramatic inspiration and the setting for a play I have brewing.
What are you currently reading?
I’ve just finished Flesh by David Szalay, the lean prose was so admirable and now I’m reading Inter Alia – a play by Suzie Miller. It’s good to mix it up!
What are you currently listening to?
Loving Hania Rani at the moment, she’s great to write to! Very emotive. A full journey.
Happiness is?
A walk, the perfect cup of tea, writing and then reading in some nice woolly socks. Or a great night at the theatre with good company. Oh, and a happy and harmonious family.
What does the future hold for you?
Fingers crossed, fostering authentic friendships, peaceful parenting and MUCH more playwriting.
