On the Couch with Matthew Predny

Matthew Predny AAR On the CouchWho is Matthew Predny?
Who is Matthew Predny? Just a guy who works at a rock climbing gym but still has the audacity to answer “ACTOR” on his international arrivals card.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Serious answer: If I wasn’t acting or composing or writing I’d love to work in Law. I studied a couple of years of Law before Acting and I was too young at the time, but now I’d particularly love to work towards being be a barrister. I’m much closer to Barista at this stage but check back in a couple of years.

Who inspires you and why?
People who are comfortable with public speaking. That’s nightmare fuel.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I try to be nice. I think that’s a solid benchmark to aim for.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I haven’t travelled as much as I’d like (being an artist doesn’t always come with the financial security to travel), but I’ve spent a lot of time in Malaysia. I love it because it’s so multicultural and the food is amazing and everyone’s so friendly. It’s also often overlooked from a tourism perspective, so a bit of a hidden gem feel.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Honestly… Timezone, for the Claw Machines! And then some of my favourite cafés. I don’t wanna start a war here, but certain Sydney cafés are the best in the country (in my humble opinion).

What are you currently reading?
The Afterglow script! There’s a lot to delve into (and to learn!).

What are you currently listening to?
I’m a pop girlie. Lots of Blackpink, Katseye, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, a dash of Gaga, and a healthy sprinkle of the Music Theatre cast recordings to prepare for auditions.

Happiness is?
Trying new foods, and eating familiar favourites.

What does the future hold for you?
Nothing is announced yet but… Maybe some more Music Theatre later in the year. And beyond that, I’m toying with the idea of the Youth Mobility Visa for a London stint. As long as I can get the savings in order!
