Who is Martin Crewes?
I’m a British-born, Perth grown, Bondi dwelling jack-of-a-couple of trades in the performing arts industry. As yet a master of none, but I’m still learning!
What would you do differently to what you do now?
Having spent a big part of my career in Europe and America, half my friends are over a day’s travel away. I’d love to find a way to see them more than I do right now.
Who inspires you and why?
I honestly find myself inspired by most people on a daily basis. Life is a challenge a lot of the time and most people rise to it.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’ve been doing a fair bit of teaching lately and I have a new level of appreciation for how important it is to pass on to the next generation whatever might be of help to them. They’ll be running the show in a minute.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I’m a sucker for Bali. The people, the food, the spirituality of the place combined with how family friendly it all is makes it an easy choice for us.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
A friend of mine has a yacht moored in Double Bay. Any time we have out-of-town visitors we get them straight out onto Sydney Harbour. Because it’s Sydney Harbour.
What are you currently reading?
The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster. A bit of a strange take on the classic American detective novel.
What are you currently listening to?
Man @ Work by Colin Hay.
Happiness is?
Any time I get to spend with my family.
What does the future hold for you?
I’m just about to start rehearsals for the Melbourne season of Dream Lover, which is very exciting. A Melbourne Christmas for my family this year.
Capturing the glamour and passion of the big band era, Martin can be seen in Dream Lover – The Bobby Darin Musical at Arts Centre Melbourne from 27 December 2017. For more information, visit: www.artscentremelbourne.com.au for details.
