Who is Maree Johnson?
Hmmmm wow, good question and never really spent time pondering the thought. At first blush, I’m a NYC based Australian/American Broadway performer about to play Madame Giry in The Phantom of the Opera on Sydney Harbour!
However, I’d like to think I’m somewhat complex and full of surprises! The reality is, I’m many different things to the various people in my life and if I could, I would ask my friends and family to answer this question.
I wear many different hats as an actor, mother, wife, friend and a member of many different networks and communities. At the end of the day, I’d like to think I’m loving, passionate, empathetic… and ready for adventure!
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Sometimes I need to hit pause and learn to say “no”.
Who inspires you and why?
My teenage daughters and husband! I marvel at the way they navigate the world, especially these past few years!
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I try to help people whenever I can. I may not always get it right but I try! We all need to step up more often and help those in need around us.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
My go-to place is Central Park. The park is amazing anytime of year and such an island of tranquility in a big city like New York. I love taking friends when walking my dog Banjo in the early mornings and an early evening summer picnic!

Saturday by Ian McEwan and re-visiting The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux.

Holidays and travelling.
What does the future hold for you?
I return to playing Madame Giry on Broadway in May and then who knows… but I’m ready!
