On the Couch with Louise Anton

Louise-Anton-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Louise Anton?
I am a professional singer, songwriter and musician from Perth. I started gigging professionally at age 16 and by age 18 was hosting Perth’s Young Entertainers on STW Channel 9. I moved to Sydney to further my music career and lived there for 25 years. Perth has always been my heart home and I was happy to move back in 2012.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Anything artistic as I love to create. Pottery, painting and interior design. I love home styling and staging and have a keen interest in property. Making a house a home has always been a passion.

Who inspires you and why?
My Mum always inspired me musically even though we were completely different styles. She was a classically trained singer and pianist and I am a contemporary singer and pianist. Mum sang on ABC Radio when she was in her 20s and was still singing in an a cappella women’s group until she was 80! I am forever grateful she gave me the gift of music.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I have always dreamt the songs I’ve written be used for social causes campaigns. She’ll Make You Love for women of domestic violence, When The World’s Crying for climate change, Too Young For Sorrow for kids from broken homes and Book of Clowns for bullying. Anything we can do to help others is the ultimate and makes us better people. Compassion is key.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
My husband’s family lives there, and up until Covid struck, we would go every year and take the kids. It’s our favorite holiday – swimming, sunshine, family barbecues, late night singing and dancing concerts at the pool bar!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
We live on the coast so we love having people come and stay to do ‘beachy things’. Our WA coastline is arguably one of the best in the world and our climate is stunning. Rottnest is a favorite and somewhere we love to take family and friends for Quokka selfies!

What are you currently reading?
I usually flit from one thing to another. Recipes for winter warmers. Slow cooked lamb, home made curries and roasts to interior design, sound design, recording and tools to better manage social media. I haven’t read a full novel for a while…

What are you currently listening to?
DMA’s, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Katie Melua and Charlatans Radio for a bit of a dance.

Happiness is?
Working in the garden, starting a home project or writing a song and seeing it through to the end. It’s immensely satisfying creating something from nothing and seeing the results.

What does the future hold for you?
Choosing wisely and being more selective in career, food, drink, health, love and friendships. Time goes so fast so there’s no point wasting it on things you don’t absolutely love.
