On the Couch with Loredo Malcolm

I was born Jamaican, grew up in New York, lived in London for three years and have now been in Australia for 20 years! I am an introvert in my personal life, but I enjoy performing and creating in my professional life. Green is my favourite colour, “believe in yourself” is my favourite quote, chicken is my favourite food, I am passionate and I love to give and help others. Spiders are a phobia of mine, music is one of my favourite go to’s. I like to be calm in my energy and my favourite artist is Beyonce. I came to Australia with The Lion King when I was 19 years old with no family, now I am 39 years old and I still don’t have my family here with me, so with that I would say I am very strong minded and I have come a long way to get to this version of me.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I would certainly try and make more time to enjoy life outside work, I would make more time to build friendships and community, I would read more books and write more. I would give myself more time to rest and do more outside work, like going on more trips, going hiking and going on nice dates.

Who inspires you and why?
Beyonce and Viola Davis. These two women came from nothing and made themselves into something, and fought and stayed strong despite the challenges. They are talented, humble, and they have built a platform for themselves. I am inspired by them and what they do. I think it’s always important to let others inspire you if you connect to them, it’s healthy to see  someone’s success and want to have your own.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would make more time for people, to listen and talk to humans and learn more about them. I would share more love, I would create shows that can bring communities together, I would continue to fight for diversity, inclusion and acceptance for all. I would use my platform to bring awareness to things that can help make our community safer, with healthier conversations.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I haven’t been on many holidays but I would say Brazil, because of the people, the music and the food. The culture is very inviting and friendly, and the music is filled with pure vibes and joy. I love when you can visit a country and they make you feel like their own.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I would take friends to the Mornington Peninsula. The drive there is absolutely beautiful and it’s a wonderful place to disconnect, and enjoy peace and tranquillity while healing your body, mind and spirit.

What are you currently reading?
I am currently not reading anything, however I am wanting to get more into it.

What are you currently listening to?
I listen to a lot of Beyonce, Gospel Music and Salsa music. My favourite album is Renaissance by Beyonce.

Happiness is?
Waking up every morning, being grateful and doing things that bring you joy. Happiness is looking after myself, mentally, physically and emotionally, being creative and sharing my knowledge with others.

What does the future hold for you?
The future is limitless for me, I believe things will start to develop the more I continue to create the path that works for me, so many goals and so much I still want to achieve. I also want healthy relationships in my future and successful working relationships as well as success in whatever I continue to do.
