On the Couch with Lisa Lottie

Lisa-Lottie-courtesy-of-Circus-Trick-TeaseWho is Lisa Lottie?
I’m Lisa Lottie! Although my friends call me either ‘Lisa’ or ‘Lottie’ and I kinda like both. I’m a hula hooping acrobat, a fitness instructor, certified tradie and religious icon inside our show, Werk It.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I would give myself more days off if I’m honest with you, I’ve been working 12 hour days 7 days a week as long as I’ve been a circus performer. When your art is your job you kinda never get to rest unless you train yourself to do it. It’s exhausting. I’m still learning!

Who inspires you and why?
I’m hugely inspired by our cast! Malia Walsh, Cassia Jamieson, Richard Sullivan and Vincent van Berkel. Between them they have like… 5 babies I think? They are some of the most hard working acrobats I know and between us we have the most ridiculous amount of skills. Also we cripple each other with laughter on the constant! They are my biggest inspirations.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I think it’s really important to be a shining example of the kind of change you’d like to see around you. That means speaking up when you believe someone is missing the mark, calling your mates to make sure they are OK, amplifying the voices of those who aren’t heard enough and showing up for those who need you.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
A sandy white beach in the Maldives please! With a good book, a good film collection and preferably some cats to hug too. Mind you, saying that I also really love my home in Fitzroy where I have all those things except the beach/pool.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Straight to Healesville Sanctuary which is genuinely one of my favourite places in the world. Australian animals are just the coolest.

What are you currently reading?
Blowing the Bloody Doors Off by Michael Caine.

What are you currently listening to?
Charli XCX – Crash.

Happiness is?
Please see question 5!

What does the future hold for you?
Can international touring be back on the menu, please please, pretty please? We are ready!
