Who is Kyle Walmsley?
Theatre maker and performer and clown and gossip.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Be a model. Like a really, really attractive model. I’d be renowned in the industry as a real pain in the arse to work with but people continuously keep booking me just because of my cheekbones and mesmerising eyes.
Who inspires you and why?
I feel energised by things I would describe as suburban gothic, multi-hour TikTok sublimation live streams, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Megan Stalter and the poetry of Hera Lindsay Bird.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Ban all sport. It’s boring and no one watches it.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Wine country, anywhere. McLaren Vale, Central Otago NZ, Bordeaux. Grapes and I like the same climates and I also like to drink them.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I live in Blackheath in the Blue Mountains and so when you come and visit me we’ll go to Mt Vic Flicks, a little 1934 cinema that’s a one stop train ride at sunset from Blackheath (also gorg).
What are you currently reading?
Browns Mart Arts Limited’s Financial Report for the year ended 31 December 2023.
What are you currently listening to?
Dead Eyes – a podcast by Connor Ratliff about the time he got fired by Tom Hanks from the TV mini-series Band of Brothers. On the surface a very funny true crime format series about a hilarious career fail and below the surface a telling deep dive into the harsh and cut throat acting industry.
Happiness is?
Connection.
What does the future hold for you?
After knocking out what will undoubtedly be a sold out season of Oyster Boy by me and Elizabeth Millington at Gasworks for Melbourne Fringe, next month Elizabeth and I join the cosmically brilliant Claire Pearson at PIP Theatre in Brisbane to stage Esther Hicks is Vibrationally Speaking.
Kyle has written and performs in Oyster Boy – which will be presented in the Studio Theatre – Gasworks Arts Park, as part of the Melbourne Fringe, from 15 – 19 October 2024. For more information, visit: www.melbournefringe.com.au for details.
