On the Couch with Kurtis Papadinis

Kurtis-Papadinis-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Kurtis Papadinis?
I’m still not really sure, I think the answer would be a little different every day. Maybe ask my mum.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’m 23, so I’d like to believe that if there’s anything I’d really want to do differently, I’d be doing it. That being said, I could probably afford to be a little more proactive when it comes to doing the dishes.

Who inspires you and why?
Currently my wonderful Wicked cast members. I’m incredibly grateful to share a rehearsal space (and soon a stage!) with them, and working with them everyday makes me want to keep pushing myself to be a better performer and human.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Eat the rich, seize the means of production, yada yada…

Favourite holiday destination and why?
At the risk of sounding a little basic, I do love NYC. I took a trip at 18 that was pretty life defining and I’d love to go back at some point. The atmosphere, the enormity, Broadway – the city has my heart.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Mario Kart tournament in my apartment. It’s one of the most exclusive and sought after events Sydney has to offer. You wouldn’t believe some of the people on the waiting list…

What are you currently reading?
I’m a little all over the place, so I have about five books on the go at the moment, but two that I’m really enjoying are: fantasy novel, The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie; and The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow – which is a really interesting look at early human societies.

What are you currently listening to?
After the Magic by Parannoul; and In the End It Always Does by The Japanese House – have been on  repeat lately.

Happiness is?
Rolling a Nat 20.

What does the future hold for you?
Well I’ll be spending a bit of time running around the Lyric Theatre as Boq during WICKED, but after that, who knows? I’m sure I’ll still be off acting somewhere (and hopefully being paid for it). I’d also love to see more of the world, so that’s definitely on the agenda too.

Kurtis stars as Boq in the musical sensation, WICKED – which plays the Sydney Lyric Theatre from 25 August 2023. For more information, visit: www.wickedthemusical.com.au for details.
