On the Couch with Katrina Retallick

Katrina-Retallick-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Katrina Retallick?
Katrina Retallick is an Actor/Singer/Mother/Painter. In other words, a very lucky human to be doing what I love.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
If I wasn’t an actor/singer, I’d be a painter. It was always stage versus visual arts for me. The stage came first and then I took myself off to art school in 2012.

Who inspires you and why?
Artists and musicians across the decades continue to inspire me. Sitting in front of some paintings by Mark Rothko with Joni Mitchell playing in my headphones, sounds like an inspiring way to spend the day.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I don’t suppose I would claim anything too lofty but when my daughter was a few months old, I seriously wondered how anyone managed to balance parenthood and performing. I started a Facebook group called Actor/Singer/Dancer/Mother in the hopes that someone could share their handy tricks and tips. It has turned into the most beautiful, empowering and educational forum! I’m very proud of it.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Italy. It’s magical.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I’d take them for a swim at Wylie’s Baths in Coogee and a delicious lunch and a glass of wine at Barzura.

What are you currently reading?
A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles.

What are you currently listening to?
I’m revisiting my love for Polyserena by George and their next band, Elixir.

Happiness is?
Happiness is a walk with the kids through the National Park near our place in Maroubra and then a swim in the sea.

What does the future hold for you?
More music, more performance, more painting and a whole lot of parenting.
