On the Couch with Kate Fryer

Kate Fryer Arts Review On the CouchWho is Kate Fryer?
A writer, director, performer, teacher, storyteller, mother, partner and control freak.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Care less about outcomes and enjoy the process.

Who inspires you and why?
There are many great artists, scientists, mathematicians, feminists, and quiet achievers across all fields whom inspire me. All those who think outside the box, have redefined thinking in their field, changed the way we look at things, those who show compassion and humanity. My children also show me the truth of life daily.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
If I had the power to make everyone value each individual human life as equal I believe we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in as a race.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I’m not much of a holiday person. Work affords me lots of travel and I love to be invited into the lives of people I work with when away. Although a special call out to Barcelona is a must, my partner is from there and we love to have time with the extended family in such a beautiful city.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I always hit the centre of Melbourne. The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Southbank, Federation Square with a trip into ACMI is a great day out.

What are you currently reading?
1984 – figured it was time for a reread!

What are you currently listening to?
Ted Talks – can’t get enough of them.

Happiness is?
Laughing while creating, having time with family and friends.

What does the future hold for you?
Who knows, I don’t want to jinx it!
