Who is Juliet Nicolson?
Hi, I’m Juliet! I am a Melbourne based musical theatre performer, although I was born and raised in Dubbo (regional NSW), so I’m a country girl at heart. Currently, I’m playing Inga in Stagebugs Production’ Young Frankenstein the Musical at Theatre Works. Outside of performing I’m a Pilates instructor, a cozy gamer (I have spent SO many hours playing Stardew Valley), and I love to relax by crafting and collecting things for my junk journal.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Growing up, I predominantly trained as a dancer, and during my time studying ballet, I had my fair share of injuries. So if I wasn’t a performer I would have loved to work as a physiotherapist that specialised in rehabilitation for dancers.
Who inspires you and why?
My mum. She is one of the most hardworking people I’ve ever met. I learnt a lot about resilience from her.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
If money wasn’t an object, I would love to spend my time volunteering at animal shelters or farm sanctuaries. I believe that all animals deserve to be treated with compassion and respect and should be given the chance to thrive in life.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Thailand! I’ve been twice now and would jump at another opportunity to travel there. The people are so kind, their beaches are stunning, and the vintage shopping in Bangkok is fantastic. Plus, there’s an abundance of mango sticky rice, what more could you want!?
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I love to show people around Fitzroy: first I’d start with brekky at Archie’s All Day, then a stroll and a shop along Brunswick Street, a late lunch at Nico’s Deli (I’m obsessed with their vegan schnitzel sandwich) and then an afternoon rooftop drink at Naked For Satan.
What are you currently reading?
Earlier this year, I practically inhaled Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, so now, I’m planning to read all of her other works – starting with the sequel, The Testaments.
What are you currently listening to?
I’ve been so blessed that a lot of my favourite artists have released new music this year, but in particular, I’ve had Phoebe Bridgers’ latest album Lost Weekend on repeat. Also, there will always be a Taylor Swift album on rotation and lately that’s been Midnights (3am edition).
Happiness is?
A sleep in and a day off with my Fiancé. No plans or deadlines, maybe a long walk and a coffee from our local, playtime with our new cat, a home cooked meal, and a couple of episodes of my comfort show – which at the moment is Schitt’s Creek.
What does the future hold for you?
In the next couple of weeks, Young Frankenstein – there’ll be plenty of yodelling and rolling in hay! And then once the show is finished, I’m hoping to have a little more time to dedicate to wedding planning!
Juliet stars as Inga in Young Frankenstein – presented by StageBugs Productions at Theatre Works, St Kilda, until 24 October 2026. For more information, visit: www.theatreworks.org.au for details.
