On the Couch with Juan Gomez

Juan Gomez AAR On the CouchWho is Juan Gomez?
I’m a 24 non-binary performer from Spain. I grew up there but came to Australia seven years ago to pursue a career in the performing arts.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would allow myself to be okay with making more mistakes.

Who inspires you and why?
There’s many people I currently look up to personally and professionally: my family and friends who inspire me everyday with their achievements and their unconditional support with whatever I’m doing. I also look up to public figures such as Ezra Miller, RuPaul and many others who use their artistry to convey their view on the world. I also look up to people like Greta Thunberg – who prove that younger generations are not to be underestimated in our grit and hunger for fairness in society and nature.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
As much as I’d like to do, there’s probably not many things I’d be able to help with currently, but I would love my story as an immigrant to serve as an inspiration for people who need to seek a future away from Home for the betterment of their lives.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I would LOVE to go to Japan and Egypt. They’re definitely on the bucket list and I hope I’ll be able to go soon!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to and why?
I love to explore the city and find hidden away treasures I can then share with friends. A good friend of mine took me to the Gin Palace when I moved to Melbourne. I loved the 20s aura that surrounds this place with the Speakeasy vibe and the incredible atmosphere inside it. Needless to say it’s full of secrets! As it connects to another beautiful fairyesque bar that is just out of this world. So whenever someone I know hits the city, I like to take them there.

What are you currently reading?
I’m actually giving myself a break from reading now cause I’ve been a bit busy but I do have a list of books I’m keen to get into. The first on the list is Everything is Fu*ked by Mark Manson. Loved the first one and can’t wait for the second one.

What are you currently listening to?
My music taste is quite eclectic so I’m always eager to find new tunes. Feel free to send me some via Instagram!

Happiness is?
Doing what you love. Once you find what it is you love any problems that come with it will be problems worth having.

What does the future hold for you?
I literally have no idea, which is a bit terrifying, but also very very exciting! Hopefully this new decade brings lots of new adventures. Can’t wait to see what happens!
