Who is Josh Piterman?
I feel I can answer this in multiple ways. From the most spacious perspective – A soul in a human costume. From a being perspective – A cheeky, playful, affectionate, curious, grateful and excitable human. From a doing perspective – A performer, coach, author, podcaster. In all these layers of self, I feel hard wired for connection. And when I get lost in melodrama of human doing, it’s beautiful, grounding and empowering to return home to something more expansive… more timeless.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Nothing – I absolutely love my life and the balance of it – so I wouldn’t do or be anything different. I think continuing to remain curious and willing to be challenged – to always learn and grow, is something I value. It’s a humble recipe that serves me and my relationships well.
Who inspires you and why?
Ram Dass… He’s been an incredibly special figure in my life for many years now. A force, a light, and someone who (to me) is the embodiment of true love. The limitless kind that carries no conditions. If only there was more love in the world like that.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Just play my part in alleviating suffering wherever I can. To create as many kind and compassionate spaces as possible to enable people to feel seen, heard, valued, noticed, respected, appreciated and loved.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Florence. I love Italy so, so much!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I take them out for coffee and dinner. Melbourne has some of the best cafés and restaurants in the world and I love to celebrate that with them.
What are you currently reading?
Re-reading both Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés and Breath by James Nestor. Both epics that I recommend to so many people.
What are you currently listening to?
Indie-Folk band Ocie Elliott. Love their sound and lyrics.
Happiness is?
A beautiful emotion to feel – but like all emotions, it ebbs and flows. I think we can often get attached to the idea of chasing happiness, clinging to it to keep it in place, as if life was meant to be only bright and loud. But the human experience is painted in every shade.
Trying to be happy all the time is like constantly singing at full volume, eventually it becomes tiring, and the beauty of dynamics is lost. We need the quiet moments too – the soft sadness, the reflective stillness. It’s the contrast that gives life its music. The full orchestration is only complete when we let ourselves feel it all.
What does the future hold for you?
Much of the same. Trying to serve my purpose – opening people’s hearts – and continuing to positively contribute and impact my little corner of the world with my unique set of gifts as best as I can.
Josh stars with Amy Manford in An Evening on Broadway – presented by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall – Arts Centre Melbourne from 24 – 26 September 2025. For more information, visit: www.mso.com.au for details.
