On the Couch with John Marc Desengano

John-Marc-Desengano-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is John Marc Desengano?
John Marc Desengano is a professional Actor, Educator, Co-Artistic Director of Western Edge and MasterChef enthusiast.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
When I was studying at drama school, I always thought that long haul truck driving would be a great casual job. I love driving long distances and could use the time to learn lines for upcoming shows. Since then I got Masters in Primary School teaching so I’d probably be a primary school teacher.

Who inspires you and why?
This sounds somewhat cliché but I am constantly inspired by the young people around me. I work with a lot of children and young people and they have such a unique and intelligent way of looking at the world. Children have such an uninhibited sense of play that I wish to capture that in my acting (and everyday life really).

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Encourage others to make everyone else look good (I don’t mean physically). If I’m making others look good, and everyone is focused on making everyone else look good, then I never have to worry about me because someone is always making me look good. That’s the world I want to live in.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Canada. It’s such a beautiful country with so much to see and do. The people truly are the friendliest as well. AND THE FOOD!!!! *Chef’s kiss*

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Melbourne is the culinary capital of the country! We would eat so much food. We would be so full from all the delicious treats that we wouldn’t be able to walk to any attractions. We’d have a nap… and then EAT AGAIN! I’d also make a point to find out which cuisines interest them or they haven’t tried before and then I’d suss out the best place for that kind of food.

What are you currently reading?
Because of the show I’m currently in, I’m currently reading Looking For Alibrandi (again).

What are you currently listening to?
The Off-Menu podcast with James Acaster and Ed Gamble.

Happiness is?
Hot jam donuts.

What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully a lot more learning, a lot more art, a lot more love, and a lot more hot jam donuts.
