Who is Joe Paradise Lui?
I think I am a fool that got very very lucky.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I think nowadays I focus more on process than on outcomes. I try very hard to maintain the mindset of controlling the things I can control, and being sanguine about how they turn out. It’s not always easy. But I try.
Who inspires you and why?
The movements for liberation all around the world. Not necessarily the leaders, but the many humans who show up, across contexts, day after day, week after week, to survive, or to fight for change and a more just world.
I think in this moment of deep hopelessness and the ascendency of facist ideologies everywhere, the individuals that make the masses who care enough to keep on doing the work are the most inspiring people.
In my personal life, I see that spirit reflected in so many of my friends and people I know personally. I draw huge inspiration for them too.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I fear not as much as I aspire to. Theoretically, anything. I genuinely hope I get better at this.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
My house. Because it’s awesome and I really mainly want to just be inside it and not have to do anything for some weeks.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
My town is Naarm and at this moment: Meatworx in Southbank. Khao Soi in the CBD. Macgregor’s Original in Abbotsford.
What are you currently reading?
The War of the Worlds by HG wells, and re-re-re-re-reading The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
What are you currently listening to?
I am repeatedly hitting CRANK by Slayyyter.
Happiness is?
A lie.
What does the future hold for you?
Father time is undefeated and the grim reaper comes for us all.
