On the Couch with Jérôme Sordillon

Arts Review On the Couch Jerome SordillionWho is Jérôme Sordillon?
I grew up in a rough city in France near Lyon, the kind of French city that is very difficult to get out of, but luckily my mother made me start gymnastics quite early – I was 4 years old. I stayed in the same club (UGV) for 15 years. I started doing circus in 2011 at Montreal’s National Circus School. Since then I have worked for le Cirque Éloize, le Cirque du Soleil and GOP Varieté-Theater. As I am very close to my friends and family, it is very important for me to get back to France as often as I can.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I don’t like regrets and don’t want to have any. I won’t tell you that I am living the perfect life but I am really happy with this (un)perfect life. I am traveling a lot, I am meeting a lot of different people and experiencing different cultures and countries. So no, I wouldn’t change anything, so far…

Who inspires you and why?
Everything can inspire me. A song, a movie, the people in the street, the news on TV, a dream, even maybe you. But the real difficulty is to know WHEN you will be inspired – you can never really know!

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I think we should live the moment. I would answer with this quote: “The past is behind, learn from it. The future is ahead, prepare for it. The present is here, live it.” – Thomas S. Monson – I do believe that this is a good way to think.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Guadeloupe!!! I was there 2 weeks ago for the first time, in my opinion it is the most beautiful place. The people are chilled, nice and relaxed. The beaches are amazing, the vegetation is unbelievable. I loved it and I have a some of my family there…

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take then to, and why?
Some of my best friends I have know from my gymnastics classes at 4 years old. I can’t see them a lot because I am often on tour, when I do get to see them we are not really going anywhere… the main attraction becomes us around a pizza and a beer, having fun remembering our funny moments, speaking for hours and hours about life and laughing about things that nobody else would understand.
