On the Couch with Jamieson Caldwell

Jamieson Caldwell Arts Review On the CouchWho is Jamieson Caldwell?
If I tell you I may have to kill you… but just this once… I do too much and find it hard to focus on one thing because I just want to do everything. Jack of all trades and master of none. As I’m getting older now my energy is changing and I’m learning to concentrate on the more important things in life. I still act, model, dance and run a Kids Party Heroes company, and help run a small theatre company.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I’d like to say nothing and let the zen in me say “I am where I’m meant to be,” but… I think after school I should have become an air host just for a few years so I could of travelled more. I have travelled but there’s so much of the world to see. Also wish I had stayed in gymnastics for longer when I was younger – I yearn for more freedom of movement all the time, but now it just hurts when I try new things. I’d like to start calisthenics and learn some real strength but I’m already kickboxing and I can only choose one at the moment dammit.

Who inspires you and why?
The planet, for always being amazing. I have many mentors in my life, people that I can’t really name because I know they would scoff at me for calling them a mentor instead of a dear friend, so I guess my friends for always helping me forward and picking me up when I may fall. Also those who selflessly give and help others.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Make me a Super Saiyan and watch me fix everything on this planet (for those who don’t know that’s a Dragonball Z reference – get into it). Seriously though, I’d love to see this world move completely onto green energy. Better distribution of food. Also I hope to live to see the fall capitalism in my lifetime, I think it’s time.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Berlin during summer. That city is incredible but I had to leave because it almost killed me a few times. Stories for another time if we ever meet.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
So many great cafe’s, the Botanical Gardens, the NGV, the Dandenong Ranges, the Great Ocean Road, the theatre, a comedy show. These are just some of the things that make Melbourne so great, but all are a must.

What are you currently reading?
Ahh, I’ve got my head in around 5 books at the moment, just goes to show again my struggle to focus on one thing. The Happiness Trap, The Nutrient Bible, The Body is the Barometer of the Soul, The Barefoot Investor, Full Speed by Jeremy O’Carroll and of course learning my lines for SPENCER but I’m almost completely off book now.

What are you currently listening to?
Kendrick Lamar’s Humble has just completely blown my socks off. It’s my go to track at the moment. Also this fairly new group Kaleo, I’m loving their sound. Getting back into a bit of old school MJ too, he was an idol for me growing up.

Happiness is?
A picnic with your partner and a dog.

What does the future hold for you?
I ask myself this quite often. Who knows? More acting. More super hero business. I’m tinkering with motorbikes at the moment, a new hobby. Kids, family and a house isn’t too far off the horizon either. More involvement with community and helping others. One day I’ll make that film I wrote.

Jamieson stars as Scott in Katy Warner’s new family comedy-drama Spencer at Chapel Off Chapel from 11 May 2017. For more information, visit: www.chapeloffchapel.com.au for details.
