On the Couch with Jacob Warner

Bell-Shakespeare-Jacob-WarnerWho is Jacob Warner?
Jacob Warner is an actor. He was raised on a farm outside Shepparton with his two brothers and young parents. He is a partner to fellow actor Jane Mahady. He lives in Sydney.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I like what I am doing now. If I were to do it all again, I would just do it the same but be kinder to people and have more patience. I did want to be a hairdresser at some point. I would also probably take dance and singing lessons because while I love doing Shakespeare, I believe musicals are the highest form of entertainment. Mum and I saw Wicked 5 times when I was a teen.

Who inspires you and why?
My mum is pretty inspiring to me. She does nothing for herself. She dedicated her life to others and spent a large portion of her life raising three kids full time and she was really good at being a mum. What other job is that hard, unpaid and when the job is over, your hard work goes basically unrecognised by the world and leads to no other work. I hope she knows that every one of her boys success is thanks to those years she dedicated to us. I feel for every parent who has to re enter the workforce after raising young children. My Dad is bloody great too by the way but it’s different.

What would you do to make a difference?
Eat less meat. Or none at all. It’s one of the few things we can do at home to fight climate change other the voting and protesting.

Favourite holiday destination?
I recently went to Europe for the first time with my partner Jane while she was shooting the very funny tv show, The Great. We managed to get to Paris for a few days and we had a pretty nice time. I also loved seeing as much theatre as I could afford in London.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
A coffee and then the Bondi to Bronte walk is a pretty amazing way to start the day. A beer at the Clovelly Bowls club and then a swim. I mean come on. That’s nice.

What are you currently reading?
I’ve never been good at reading and it makes me feel dumb. I have a lot of books I am trying to read? SPQR by Mary Beard and 1604 by James Shapiro. Sometimes I read Jane chapters of The Da Vinci Code to help her to sleep. For those that don’t know, the Da Vinci Code is a novelisation of my favourite documentary film The Da Vinci Code about Tom Hanks search for, in short, truth. I’m also reading Romeo and Juliet over and over and over.

What are you currently listening to?
The following Podcasts are part of my daily/weekly routine: Smartless, Race Chaser (for my Drag Race content), The Bill Simmons Podcast (for my NBA content) and The Rest is History. I love podcasts. They feel like my friends.

Happiness is?
Jane. I love every day with her.

What does the future hold for you?
I just want to spend as much time as I can with Jane and my family and friends till I die. Covid really put that into perspective. Everything else is a bonus.
