On the Couch with Jack Prest

AF Jack Prest AAR On the CouchWho is Jack Prest?
Time travelling sound lord and self-professed BBQ master.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Not much really, pretty content with life right now to be honest…

Who inspires you and why?
My girlfriend Cozzie, she’s always moving ahead with her various creative projects and trying new things even when times are tough. She also believes in me and couldn’t be more supportive of my art and work.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’ve had a pipe dream for few years to build recording studios in developing countries and train locals in sound engineering and production. I feel it’s an achievable task that could have a real impact so hopefully one day…

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Central Australia – there’s nothing quite like the open expanse, the sound of the wind, the silence, it’s incredible.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Petersham Charcoal Chicken (aka Frangos), because the chilli/burgers/chicken are the best, it’s an inner-west (Sydney) icon.

What are you currently reading?
Halfway through A Secret History by Donna Tart – it’s been sitting on the bedside table for a month untouched though, don’t get/make as much time to read as I would like.

What are you currently listening to?
Literally, the new unreleased track by Angus1, Sydney based producer/songwriter, that I just finished mixing. Also the new Andy Schauf record and ABC Classic FM in the car.

Happiness is?
Our cat rolling in the grass on a sunny day.

What does the future hold for you?
I’m currently moving towards creating my own dance/performance work with some long-term collaborators. After the best part of 10 years working in the industry I feel like I’m ready to make my own statement.

Jack is the Composer of Nick Power’s Two Crews – which will be presented in the Space Theatre – Adelaide Festival Centre from 10 – 14 March as part of the 2020 Adelaide Festival. For more information, visit: www.adelaidefestival.com.au for details.
