On the Couch with Imogen Moore

Imogen Moore Arts Review On the CouchWho is Imogen Moore?
What a question. Every day I’d probably give a different answer. A gal. A performer. A friend. A daughter. A sister. A lover. A learner. A giver. A lover of seafood and cheese. An avoider of “drama”.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Golly gee, well when I finished year 12 I had two uni offers, one for Medicine, and one for Musical Theatre at VCA. (I chose the more fun option). If I hadn’t had that opportunity it is crazy to think where I would be in my life right now. Probably in my final year of my medical degree. Ahhhh. If I had to change careers now I think I would bumble around the place for a while trying to find something that made me comparatively as happy. I would also like (and I’m trying) to refrain from buying things I don’t need.

Who inspires you and why?
My Mumma and my peers. Seeing people you know work hard and then achieve is so rewarding and inspires me to keep on keeping on. Hard work pays off.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I try to make at least one stranger smile every day whether they be a passer by on the street or an audience member. But that’s now. If there were no limitations I would begin by ending world poverty. I would remove whatever is rooted inside people that makes them racist, sexist, xenophobic or discriminatory in any way. I would also clean up the world and make it easier and cooler to compost and recycle.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Ooh give me a holiday anywhere, any day! I unfortunately haven’t been able to/ given myself the opportunity to travel much yet. I love going home to Hobart but am dying to go to New York City.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
It has to be a meal at one of the incredible Melbourne restaurants or cafes and then a trip to NGV to catch the latest exhibition, people watch or just to sit in the back room under the stained glass ceiling. Bliss.

What are you currently reading?
Scott Pape’s The Barefoot Investor – not exactly the most creative read but incredibly inspiring nonetheless. It’s never too early to start thinking about what you’re doing with your dollars!

What are you currently listening to?
I have semi-recently got really into podcasts! I’m currently mixing it up between some Casefile True Crime, Stuff you Should Know, and Wilosophy. And on Spotify? Why, The Essential Liz Calloway of course.

Happiness is?
Having enough time and using it well.

What does the future hold for you?
I hope it holds new and exciting career opportunities. More learning! Joyous moments with family and friends, and health and happiness for us all.
