Who is Helena Dix?
Helena is an Aussie opera singer who travels the world singing high notes, wearing big dresses and causing the best kind of mischief. She is outspoken, compassionate, quirky and loving with a dash of sassy!
What would you do differently from what you do now?
If I wasn’t a performer? Hmmm I’d love to do something in psychology, or alternatively be a Bollywood dance star!
Who inspires you and why?
So many people! My mother – without a doubt. Strongest individual I know. Career wise I have many heroes – Monserrat Caballe, Elina Garanca, Jamie Barton and Jessye Norman just to name a few. To be honest though, I’ve met colleagues all around the globe that inspire me to be the best I can be. Oh, and Miriam Margolyes is my spirit animal.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I think each of us already do make a difference in the world. Something as simple as reaching out to a stranger, making someone smile, or in my world – broadening people’s imaginations!
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I absolutely loved Vietnam. Hubby and I went there for our honeymoon. The culture is so far removed from ours. I learnt so much, and the food was incredible! Although, they all called me Buddha and would touch me for luck which was a bit disconcerting. Apparently it is because I’m large and smile all the time!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
A lovely drive along the Great Ocean Road, a trip to Phillip Island to see the penguins and a trip to The Dandenongs for Koala spotting.
What are you currently reading?
My opera score. This is my 3rd new role in a row so that is all my brain can deal with. Nerd, I know!
What are you currently listening to?
Lucrezia Borgia of course. Alternatively some New Orleans jazz or old school female rap!
Happiness is?
Spending time with the people I treasure, being with my dog, doing what I love. Jazz hands.
What does the future hold for you?
High notes, travel, hugs and some much needed time off to spend with hubby.
