On the Couch with Grant Piro

Grant Piro Arts Review On the CouchWho is Grant Piro?
I didn’t know the answer to that question for years. I use to think I was much more important than I am. But with age comes wisdom. I hope. I am primarily a Husband and Father, just muddling my way through the diaspora.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
What would I have done differently? I would’ve kept my mouth shut. You can’t learn anything while you’re talking.

Who inspires you and why?
Marina Prior. The kindest most loving and generous person I have ever known. A high achiever with an extraordinary talent as a singer and actor.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Keep my mouth shut.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Qualia. So private and the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever stayed in. And I’ve stayed in lots! The perfect escape.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Restaurants. Melbourne restaurants are the best in the world. We always take our visitors to Sakè at Southbank. It’s our favourite. Also Hellenic Republic in Kew.

What are you currently reading?
I have a few projects on the go at the same time right now, so I’m reading my scripts for 80 Days, The Odd Couple, and a new series for the ABC. It’s eight episodes, so I’m mostly doing homework. And a couple of plays that I’ll do next year. I wish I had more time to read books like a grown up.

What are you currently listening to?
Saw some old Split Enz footage on YouTube a few weeks back. So I’ve dug out all the albums. I have them all.

Happiness is?
Happiness is Marina Prior. She is, after all, my wife.

What does the future hold for you?
I wish I knew. But it will involve loving Marina Prior. And keeping my mouth shut.

Grant will be appearing in Around the World in 80 Days at The Alex Theatre, St. Kilda: 23 August – 4 September 2016, before touring to Geelong Performing Arts Centre (14 – 17 September); Mooroolbark Community Centre (21 September); and Whitehorse Centre (23 September).
