On the Couch with Félix Pouliot

Félix Pouliot AAR On the CouchWho is Félix Pouliot?
Félix Pouliot is someone who believes that every moment, joyful or difficult, is an opportunity to play, connect, and laugh. From a table surrounded by friends and laughter to a stage bathed in light, or even in the quiet, ordinary moments of life, Félix finds small moments of play and connection in everyday life and tries to meet each one with curiosity and laughter.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I feel incredibly lucky to do what I do: to create, perform, connect, and make people feel something real. I hope I can keep doing it for a very long time. If anything, I’d love to keep deepening it, to keep learning, collaborating, and finding new ways to blend emotion, movement, and humour into unforgettable experiences.

Who inspires you and why?
James Thierrée has been a huge inspiration. I love the way he treats aesthetics, his character work, his ability to balance comedy and drama, and how seamlessly he weaves circus, dance, and mime together. His work feels like poetry in motion. I’m also deeply inspired by Strut & Fret. I love how they break the wall between artists and audience: the proximity, the energy exchange, the involvement of the crowd. It’s electric. After that kind of connection, it’s hard to go back to traditional theatre.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I believe live performance art has a quiet but powerful ability to change people. When we create a space where audiences can let go of their egos and reconnect with their inner child – their most authentic self – something profound happens. It’s a kind of permission to feel again, to be vulnerable, joyful, human. If more people could access that part of themselves, the world would naturally become more empathetic, peaceful, and kind. What we do on stage may be just small steps, but every bit of honest connection helps shape a better world.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Australia. It’s the perfect mix of lush, exotic nature, ocean, and vibrant city life, all under beautiful weather. You can go from rainforest to beach to buzzing nightlife in the same day. It feels alive and balanced at the same time.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I’d get a few vans, hit the road, and drive straight into nature. There’s nothing like exploring the outback, sleeping under the stars, and disconnecting from the noise of social media and city life. It’s the best way to reconnect – with each other and with yourself.

What are you currently reading?
Daring Greatly by Brené Brown. I love how she explores vulnerability as a strength rather than a weakness. It resonates deeply with what I do – performing, creating, taking emotional risks in front of others. It’s a reminder that courage and authenticity are what truly connect us as humans, on stage and off.

What are you currently listening to?
I’ve been really into Andrew Huberman’s podcast lately. He talks about neuroscience and the science of the brain in such a clear, accessible way. I love learning how our biology shapes our emotions, motivation, and creativity. It’s fascinating to see how science explains what we intuitively feel as artists: the connection between body, mind, and performance.

Happiness is…
Not the destination, not the path; it’s who walks beside you along the way.

What does the future hold for you?
More shows, of course, but also a more grounded lifestyle. I dream of building a creative community of friends and families living and working together, a place close to nature where art, laughter, and connection are part of daily life. A place where children grow up surrounded by love, creativity, and curiosity, where everyone helps raise and inspire each other. That, to me, would be the most beautiful act of creation.
