OA Emma Pearson photo by Mike ClareWho is Emma Pearson?
Emma is a soprano, originally from Perth but lived in Germany for 10 years, Sydney for 18 months, and now lives in New Zealand. She’s a Kammersangerin and a mum.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I would ask for more help when I need it.

Who inspires you and why?
New Zealand soprano Deborah Wai Kapohe, she’s a passionate musician and opera singer who is forging her own path.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Free education for people on the pension. Help people over 65 to socialise and keep up to date with advances in technology,  internet safety, environmental science, psychology, languages and the arts etc.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Perth. I miss my friends there but also hot summer nights and early morning swims.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I live in Matakana, North of Auckland, which has beautiful vineyards and a lot of artists, potters and pick your own strawberries farms! I would take guests very early to the Matakana Markets on Saturday before all the Aucklanders arrive, then to swim at Omaha Beach, and finish up at Brickbay Winery.

What are you currently reading?
Anaïs Nin’s A Spy in the House of Love.

What are you currently listening to?
Elvis’ granddaughter, Riley Keough’s album, Daisy Jones & the Six

Happiness is?
Taking your loved one out for cocktails and an evening at the opera.

What does the future hold for you?
My next role will be Countess Adele in Rossini’s Le Comte Ory for New Zealand Opera!

Emma stars as Elettra in Lindy Hume’s production of Mozart’s Idomeneo – which will be presented by Opera Australia in the Joan Sutherland Theatre – Sydney Opera House from 20 February 2024. For more information, visit: www.opera.org.au for details.
