On the Couch with Ellen van Neerven

Ellen van Neerven AAR On the CouchWho is Ellen van Neerven?
EvN is a poet.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I am pretty happy with what I am doing now! My play is about to open so things are intense, but I’m still fitting in time to relax and see friends, which is absolutely crucial.

Who inspires you and why?
I love seeing Bhenji Ra perform. Most recently I saw her in a Marrugeku show in Rubibi/Broome and as part of Kimberley Blak Pride. I love how she uses her platform to uplift community.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Keep writing and supporting others who write. We need our storytellers.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I don’t often take holidays but my brother and his girlfriend recently got back from Taiwan and I would like to go in the future.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Most likely to QAGOMA to see an exhibition. Then we’ll sit or walk by the river for a while.

What are you currently reading?
Naag Mountain by Manisha Anjali.

What are you currently listening to?
King Stingray. I am desperate to see them live.

Happiness is?
Being with loved ones and being on Country.

What does the future hold for you?
Warmer days, warmer hearts, swimming in the sea.
