On the Couch with Eamon Evans

Eamon-Evans-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Eamon Evans?
Eamon Evans is a Melbourne-based writer who has spent all his working life writing for the online and print media. I am the author of eleven vaguely funny books and an unfinished Masters thesis.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I would have given myself more time to think of any answer to this question!

Who inspires you and why?
My dogs, in a roundabout way. They’re so “present” and stress-free and in the moment and so on. It’s like living with the Dalai Lama.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
If I could be World Dictator for a day, I’d probably pump a few trillion dollars into stem cell meat. It just ticks so many boxes when it comes to reducing cruelty, wiping out hunger, helping the environment, etc, etc. Plus we could all eat Panda burgers with a completely clear conscience.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I love long walks through the English countryside. It’s like stepping into a Jane Austen novel.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The airport. I joke, but Melbourne’s not really a great place to see things. It’s more just a great place to live.

What are you currently reading?
I’m making another heroic attempt to get through Patrick O’Brien’s Master and Commander series. It’s good stuff but I’m learning a lot more about mizzensails, bilge keels and rigging and so on than I ever really wanted to know.

What are you currently listening to?
The Rest is History podcast. (Yes, that’s right. I am very cool).

Happiness is?
A retrospective thing, for me at least. I never really sit down and think to myself “Gosh, I’m happy.” But looking back, it often turns out that I was.

What does the future hold for you?
Death, I imagine. But let’s hope for the best!
