Who is Dylan Rodriguez?
I am an aerialist, drag artist, creator, vivacious ensemble member, and professional show-off. I’ve been performing and touring pretty non-stop for the last 10 years, since I first hit the stage. I spend most of my time with the cast of Briefs Factory – a family of brats, queens, and circus freaks who travel the world glitter-bombing one city at a time.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I often fantasize about being a stay-at-home wife in the suburbs with an uncapped Amex. If anyone reading this wants to make it happen for me, please hit me up – I can’t cook x
Who inspires you and why?
Wow, so many people. I’m heavily inspired by the artists I surround myself with. When you’re constantly working with artists who are innovating, questioning, and searching for new ways to present and perform, you find yourself doing the same – nurturing an environment where you can snowball and create.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Honestly, I think I’m kind of doing it. Being a man who heavily embraces the feminine is not always an easy road. Drag isn’t always understood. Being a performer in general isn’t always understood. But I have witnessed audience members experience a shift in the hour they sit down and watch my shows.
I’ve seen the penny drop. I’ve seen waves of understanding come crashing down. I’ve seen people leave the theatre with a new perspective. I’ve seen teenagers come out to their parents after experiencing safety in our shows. That gives me purpose – and evidence that what we do makes a real difference.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I went to the Greek Islands once – Hydra, Paros, Santorini. I wasn’t prepared for how stunning every aspect of the trip was. I think about it a lot, and I would love to go back.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I get them guest-list entry and three drink cards to an establishment of my choice.
What are you currently reading?
Well, I was reading Eldest by Christopher Paolini, but, lost it
What are you currently listening to?
Rumours – Lindsay Lohan.
Happiness is?
Happiness is a sold-out show, so make sure you book your tickets to Briefs Factory: The Works! Haha, but seriously, happiness comes in many forms. Happiness is a standing ovation. Happiness is nailing that circus skill you’ve been stressing about for weeks. Happiness is Kewpie Mayo.
What does the future hold for you?
I want to do sooo much. At the top of my list would be to curate/direct/run a cabaret show that has a home in Melbourne. I’ve got a burn book full of never-ending ideas that needs to see the light of day at some point.
Dylan can be seen in Briefs Factory: The Works – which is currently playing at Spiegel Haus Melbourne until 19 April 2026. For more information, visit: www.spiegelhausmelb.com for details.
