Who is Dushan Philips?
Dushan is a cluster of star dust walking on a rock suspended in infinite space. He gives meaning to the meaninglessness of his condition by committing to a form of non-violent protest in his pursuits as an Artist. He often hides behind language and is eternally afraid of being found out as an ill-educated, unwise low denominational fool.
What would you do differently to what you do now?
If I could do anything else, I probably wouldn’t be an Actor. Had I have been a better student, maybe a Doctor or a Sage.
Who inspires you and why?
Tupac Shakur achieved everything that we know of him and was killed at 25-years-old. He had a legendary work ethic. He had a command of the English language and was a disciple of the truth and gave his life because his truths weren’t containable. That conviction was inspirational.
What would you do to make a difference in this world?
Isn’t there something about ‘be the change you want to see in the world’. But at some point you do have to step into living your philosophies regardless of the consequences. I think Capitalism is currently perpetrating the greatest crimes against humanity not to mention the environment within which we live. (*please forgive me but playing Dr. Martin Luther King has put me in a state of eternal protest).
Favourite holiday destination and why?
India. It is the spiritual home of the world.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
In summer, when the weather is 35 degrees or more, a four-hour float on the Pound Bend River in Warrandyte is the best.
What are you currently reading?
Mahatma Gandhi autobiography. Martin’s greatest inspiration outside of Jesus Christ himself.
What are you currently listening to?
MLK speeches.
Happiness is?
The pursuit of one’s passions and being in service of something greater than the self.
What does the future hold for you?
Nothing. Tomorrow never comes. I’m right where I want and need to be right now!
