Who is Diana Holt?
I’m an actor and storyteller with a deep love for performance and connection. Born in Toowoomba, I’m currently rehearsing for the role of ‘Beverley’ in Come From Away – an incredibly powerful and inspiring show, opening soon at the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba. I love travelling the world. I love the cold, rain and snow and visiting Iceland in wintertime has been a highlight for me.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I feel incredibly lucky to be doing what I love, but if I were to explore something different, I’d love to work in film. Theatre has been my home, but there’s something fascinating about the way film captures performance in such an intimate and lasting way. The idea of stepping into that world is really exciting to me.
Who inspires you and why?
I find inspiration in strong, trailblazing women like the woman my character is based on, Beverley Bass, the first female captain for American Airlines. Her determination and resilience, especially in a male-dominated field, are incredible. I’m also deeply inspired by RuPaul – not just for his impact on drag and entertainment, but for his message of self-love, confidence, and unapologetic authenticity. “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?” Is a philosophy I truly believe in.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
There’s so much happening in the world, and sometimes it’s hard to know where to start or what kind of impact one person can make. But I do believe in the power of kindness and connection. Whether it’s through theatre, film, or simply how we show up for each other in daily life. I think making a difference starts with lifting people up, creating space for important conversations, and spreading a little more understanding in the world.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I absolutely love travelling to Italy and Iceland. Italy has this incredible mix of history, culture, and, of course, amazing food. Whether it’s the art in Florence, the coastline of Amalfi, or just enjoying a plate of pasta, it always feels magical. Iceland, on the other hand, is breathtaking in a completely different way – the landscapes are surreal, the natural beauty is untouched, and seeing the Northern Lights is an unforgettable experience.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Toowoomba has so much to offer, but I’d definitely take them to Picnic Point for the stunning views. If they visit during the Carnival of Flowers, even better. It’s such a vibrant and beautiful celebration of the city. And of course, the Farmers Markets on Saturdays. There are a wonderful variety of market stalls with yummy local produce and lots of happy puppy dogs to meet.
What are you currently reading?
Right now, I’m ready Ikigai, which explores the Japanese philosophy of finding purpose and joy in life, and Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, which is full of fascinating life lessons. I love books that inspire me to think differently and stay motivated, whether in my career or personal life.
What are you currently listening to?
A mix of things. Come From Away is obviously in my head a lot right now, but I also love listening to music that lifts my energy or podcasts that inspire me. I also enjoy listening to true crime podcasts.
Happiness is?
For me, it’s curling up with a cozy blanket on a rainy or snowy day, watching a great movie and enjoying a delicious plate of food. There’s something so simple yet perfect about that kind of comfort.
What does the future hold for you?
Right now, I’m fully immersed in Come From Away at The Empire, and I can’t wait to share this incredible story with the audiences. Looking ahead, I will be touring most weekends this year performing in a tribute festival with an entertainment company from New South Wales and excited to see what other opportunities come my way.
Diana stars as Beverley in Come From Away – which will be presented at The Empire Theatre, Toowoomba from 14 – 23 March 2025. For more information, visit: www.empiretheatre.com.au for details.
