On the Couch with Delia Hannah

Arts Review On the Couch Delia HannahWho is Delia Hannah?
Actress, singer and Leading Lady in the role of Grizabella The Glamour Cat in CATS.

What would you do differently?
I’ve always loved good design and architecture. I went to Art School for three years and after a post graduate year at teachers college I taught art and art history in a high school for nearly four years before entering Show Business. My fantasy profession, if it wasn’t performing, would probably be fashion design or photography.

Who inspires you and why?
My Mum inspires me. I think she is so amazing and special and I hope I’m just like her in 20 years time! She is so radiant and positive about everyone she knows and everything she does. She’s highly motivated and active in the community and everyone adores her.

What would you do to make a difference?
I would like to sponsor more kids in developing countries! I think it’s a really direct way to help children and entire communities keep above the poverty line.

Favourite holiday destination?
I lived at Bondi Beach for twelve years and being beside the ocean is definitely my ‘happy place’! I love to get up to the northern beaches in Auckland and Northland! There is so much to do and so many gorgeous places to discover!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to and why?
I’d take them on a fiery to Waiheke Island ! We’d have brunch at the market and then a late lunch at a winery. The island is glorious place to explore and the food is fantastic at the weekend market and the winery’s are top- notch as well. The next day I’d put them in the car and take them to Hobbiton (the preserved film set location from The Lord Of The Rings).

What are you currently reading?
Sadly, I’m not reading an actual book at the  moment but I will admit that I am watching Netflix. Mainly documentaries for example Making a Murderer and the What Happened Miss Simone.

What are you currently listening to?
My thirteen year old daughter and I just did a road trip and I’ve been listening to her Spotify selection which was quite interesting… Fall Out Boy, The Fat Rat, Panic at The Disco, Twenty One Pilots, Tally Hall, My Chemical Romance. She likes Emo Rock as she calls it.  I tend to go for a slower beat myself!

Happiness is?
Being with the ones I love, a good movie, a healthy tasty home-cooked meal and a cold beer! I’m grateful to the career I’ve had performing as the leading lady of some pretty wonderful shows but I cherish my down time at home as I’m so often away on tour

What does the future hold for you?
I never know beyond a few months.. Does anyone know?  I am planning to do a large painting in oil of my childhood holiday place. My grandfather transported a house to Wiamarama Beach during the ’30s and it was our family holiday home for many years. It’s  on the East Coast south of Hawkes Bay… it’s just been sold so I am going to take some photos and do a painting of Bare Island at Waimarama. A childhood icon of mine. I’m also glad and grateful to be rejoining my CATS Family for a short but fabulous  season in Adelaide!

Delia will be performing the role of Grizabella The Glamour Cat in the Adelaide and Perth seasons of CATS. For more information, visit: www.adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au or www.catsthemusical.com/australia for details.
