david-joseph-arts-review-on-the-couchWho is David Joseph?
A Melbourne based actor and musician with a long history of circus, community arts and independent theatre. Currently playing drums and percussion with the ARIA winning Melbourne Ska Orchestra and rehearsing for the upcoming season of his award-winning solo show Deceptive Threads.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Trust my instinct more on the really important things. Party less and work harder.

Who inspires you and why?
My bees. They are so harmonious and hard working – and their honey? WOW!

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Dismantle the Australian Border Force and bring the asylum seekers here.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Bush camping by the beach with my beautiful partner. Simple living is my favourite lifestyle, just the bare essentials, and who doesn’t love waking up and having a surf before breakfast? Oh yeah, and cooking on a fire… I love that!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The flying foxes on the Yarra because they are there in the wild a stones throw from the city, and a dance at Open Studio in Northcote, because it’s my local and I love it.

What are you currently reading?
Arnold Zable The Fighter, Don Watson The Bush, and Abdi Aden Shining, the story of a lucky man.

What are you currently listening to?
Lux Feminae by Monserrat Figueras and Hound Dog by Big Mama Thornton.

Happiness is?
Ever present but often elusive.

What does the future hold for you?
Perfecting the art of making goat’s cheese, bringing the joy of music to more people around the world, and creating more performances with Bowerbird Theatre.

David will be performing in Bowerbird Theatre’s production of Deceptive Threads at fortyfivedownstairs: 9 – 20 November 2016. For more information, visit: www.fortyfivedownstairs.com for details.
