Who is David Griggs?
In terms of what I do, I make paintings, sculptures and films. I keep my life very simple, gym, studio, meditation, family, friends, travel and cooking. If you have bad energy or doubt me you need to find someone else to annoy.
What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would stop smoking completely. I have cut down significantly in the last few months, however it is my one weakness’ to have a cigarette with my coffee.
Who inspires you and why?
My girlfriend gives me great courage. Her outlook on life inspires me deeply. And anyone who strives to be progressive in any creative field will inspire me. People who are resilient towards criticism and who will keep believing in their creativity no matter what.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would and already do try to help others battling with depression. Mental Health needs way more attention in our industry. All of us artists truly need to look out for each other more.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
The Philippines for sure, Palawan or Siquijor. Go there and you will see beauty and experience being around amazing people, good vibes.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Attraction’s, friends can do that themselves. For me it is always about great food. I would take them to eat at Little Nepal in Burwood and to Master Bowl in Chinatown. Best two restaurants in Sydney.
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading; de Kooning: An American Master – written by Mark Stevens and Annalyn Swan.
What are you currently listening to?
My morning gym workouts are usually a combination off Fugazi, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden. Studio work is all about Hip Hop, 2Pac, 50 Cent, The Game and so on.
Happiness is?
Staying sane, everything else is just smoke.
What does the future hold for you?
I have a project coming up, (yet to be announced) in Denmark for 2020. My allies Matthew Griffin and TV Moore and I are currently working on a pilot tv series, let’s just say it involves Vegan cooking and art.
David’s exhibition, Between Nature and Sin is currently being presented at Bunjil Place, Narre Warren until 1 December 2019. For more information, visit: www.bunjilplace.com.au for details.
