On the Couch with Darcy Whitsed

Darcy-Whitsed-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Darcy Whitsed?
Darcy Whitsed is a Melbourne based actor and theatre maker who graduated in 2017 from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Theatre Practice). He is a coffee lover, proud dog dad and pun-enthusiast. Darcy is extremely excited to be finally able to bring Awkward Conversations With Animals I’ve F*cked by Rob Hayes to the Melbourne stage after a great season in Perth in 2020.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I think I would be a teacher. My plan in high school was to become a science teacher before I realised Chemistry and I didn’t have as much chemistry as I thought. I think I would still love to teach people but perhaps in acting/theatre making.

Who inspires you and why?
Lots of different people inspire me for many different reasons. Career wise, I am inspired by Hugh Jackman because he is insanely talented fellow Aussie and seems like such a nice guy. Life wise I am really inspired by my partner, parents and sister. They all have different strengths and they have all taught me a lot over the years and given me so much support in my acting career.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would like to take a leaf out of my Dad’s book and work on building projects in villages in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Definitely Tasmania. I was blown away by how beautiful and diverse it was and how much there was to do. I can’t wait to go back.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I can’t go past a big Yum Cha session on Little Bourke Street. It is the best way to experience Melbourne’s amazing mix of cultures and walk out feeling like a dumpling-filled barrel in the best kind of way.

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Maxout Your Life by Ed Mylett. Trying to get some good habits in place after the wild ride that was 2020.

What are you currently listening to?
I’m listening to Heat Waves by Glass Animals almost on repeat. I can’t get enough of it!

Happiness is?
Watching my dog get all wiggly with excitement while she is waiting at the bottom of the stairs for us after we’ve got up in the morning.

What does the future hold for you?
More acting and hopefully more travel when things open up a bit more. I would really love to write and produce my own play or film so fingers crossed that becomes a reality.
