On the Couch with Dane Simpson

Dane-Simpson-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Dane Simpson?
A proud Gamilaraay man who lives in Wagga Wagga NSW. My family come from outback NSW in a town called, Walgett.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I used to work as a Social Worker with the State Government. I was a Case Manager and I worked with young people with Acquired Brain Injuries and/or Intellectual Disabilities.

Who inspires you and why?
I love a range of Comedians. Kitty Flanagan is one of my absolute favourite people. Shiralee Hood gave me the best advice when I first began. I used to get really nervous, and she told me “You are always gonna have butterflies in your stomach but it’s about teaching them to fly in formation.”

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Just be honest. I think if we all are honest with each other and ourselves, we can get a lot done together.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Cairns is beautiful. I also enjoy going out to Walgett and seeing my family.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I always take people for a drive past a mural of me in Wagga Wagga. I like to pretend it wasn’t there the day before.

What are you currently reading?
Never really been into books but I could almost quote every good movie.

What are you currently listening to?
Best of Prince – All the hits of a absolute genius.

Happiness is?
Hanging out with loved ones and having a laugh.

What does the future hold for you?
Looking forward to performing my Show, Didgeridoozy, at the Wynnum Fringe. It’s going to be a blast!

Dane presents his show, Didgeridoozy in The Vault at the 2022 Wynnum Fringe Festival on Friday 2 December. For more information, visit: www.wynnumfringe.com for details.
