Who is Damon Wade?
A Sydney-based Musical Director with a mild allergy to bullets. Most recently he was the MD of Zombie! The Musical at the Hayes Theatre and Keys 1 on Wicked at the Sydney Lyric Theatre.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Other than specifically Musical Directing/playing keys in pits of Musicals, I’d learn how to play worship organ like Cory Henry and join some jazz fusion originals band like Snarky Puppy – or be in an 80s tribute band for the likes of Chicago or Hall and Oates
Who inspires you and why?
My high school music teacher, David Kalman. I wouldn’t be doing what I do today without his endless musical talents that inspired me, and encouragement to pursue it.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Art makes a difference in the world. Making art/music everyday for people to escape to and enjoy makes a glorious difference and often taken for granted in my opinion. Murder For Two is a great example – no one knows the show, but leave having split their sides from laughter.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Europe in Winter. Pretty much anywhere from Rome to Copenhagen to Budapest to Amsterdam. I’m a sucker for schnitzel and skiing so the Bavaria region is a particular favourite. Conversely, almost any beach on the NSW south coast and QLD sunshine coast – Jervis Bay, Tathra, Noosa, Happy Valley.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The Coogee to Bondi walk – doesn’t matter what time of day or year or the weather, it’s always breath-taking. Other than that probably the Manly ferry for the glory that is Sydney Harbour, and the walk from Manly Beach round to Shelly beach.
What are you currently reading?
In The Heights – Keys 2.
What are you currently listening to?
Shaun Martin – 7 Summers Album. Vale.
Happiness is?
Making a living from musical theatre. Literally, living the dream.
