On the Couch with Damien Bermingham

Damien Bermingham AAR On the CouchWho is Damien Bermingham?
I’m a professional Musical Theatre Actor living in Sydney.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
If I had my time again and musical theatre wasn’t a career option, I’d love to be involved in sports broadcasting. I’m a frustrated couch commentator.

Who inspires you and why?
People who have been through real adversity yet come out the other end with a positive mindset and kind attitude.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
If I was all powerful, I’d make all healthcare and education completely free. What you do with that is then up to you. As yet, I’m not all powerful, so for now I just aim to be kind to everyone I meet.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Thailand! Great weather, great food and great people.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
You can’t beat going to the Sydney Opera House. A sunset bevy is a such a treat, even though us locals take it for granted.

What are you currently reading?
A series of History books by Peter Fitzsimons. Currently reading Mawson.

What are you currently listening to?
Podcasts. All the time. Pod Saves America and Kick It Forward are two of my favourites.

Happiness is?
Time off with my partner Jane. She brings my life nothing but joy. Although it’s a tricky thing to do given my career requires constant touring.

What does the future hold for you?
I always said I could die happy if I did one professional musical. 25 years on it’s still happening, so everything from here on out is gravy. Long may it continue.

Damien stars as Monsignor O’Hara in Sister Act – currently playing at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre until 26 October, before touring to Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. For more information, visit: www.sisteractthemusical.com.au for details.
